Description

Consultants are the ultimate problem-solvers. Driven to find solutions for a wide range of issues related to business strategy, they advise organisations by employing broad and deep expertise in the fields of innovation strategy, business operations and change management. The aim of this course is to create a better understanding of some of the theoretical approaches to consulting, the consulting process and the tools and techniques that can be used to help organizations improve performance and become more effective. Through a variety of readings, written assignments, case discussions, exercises, and role plays, students learn the fundamentals of consulting practice. This includes diagnostic and problem-solving methodologies, planning and executing assignments. During case study discussions, students will gain knowledge in common mistakes, and ethical issues in consulting.

Course objectives

After attending the course “consultancy theory and practice” students are able to:

  • Understand the theoretical underpinning of the consulting;

  • Systematically analyse and map a problem;

  • Use diagnostic and problem-solving methodologies;

  • Generate ideas, identify solutions and assess risks;

  • Take into account change management methods and theory;

  • Write a report and deliver advice in a presentation.

Mode of instruction

During the lectures, students are introduced to innovation strategy, business operations and change management. The course is provided in collaboration with representatives from the field.

Assessment method

team assignment (60%) and individual exam (40%).
