Important announcement

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Secure Systems will not be taught in the Spring 2020 semester. Students enrolled in the Advanced Computing and Systems core component need to follow the Robotics course instead. All other students can choose one of the other Computer Science specialisation courses offered in the Spring 2020 semester.

Description

The Secure Systems course deals with system-level threats against computer systems, and approaches to defend against such threats.

Course objectives

  • Students understand how software and hardware bugs can lead to insecure systems.

  • Students are able to apply static and dynamic analysis to find insecurities in systems.

  • Students are able to use software (including compilers, operating systems, and hypervisors) to make systems more secure.

Lectures and practical assignments.

Total hours of study: 168 hrs.
Lectures 28:00 hrs.
Practical work 120:00 hrs.
Examination 20:00 hrs.

Assessment method

The course will be assessed using practical assignments and a written exam. All parts must be passed to pass the course. The final grade is computed as a weighted average of the parts.
