Research Master students, should always take this course for 10 ECTS.

Description

The objective of the course is to present and discuss in a comparative way the recent evolution of the BRICS Countries. Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Emphasis will be given to the insertion of these countries in the globalization process and how they are dealing with the economic crisis.
The course will start with a discussion on globalization and then present each country´s experience, singling out the Brazilian experience.

Course objectives

The objective of the course is to give an insight into concepts such as globalization, innovation and BRICS. The emphasis will be on the economic development of these different countries, with a focus on Brazil.

Lectures, presentations by students and essay.

Course Load

5 EC = 140 hours in total. 24 hours for class attendance. 32 hours for reading assignments and preparing an oral presentation 84 hours for writing a paper.
10 EC: 280 hours in total 24 hours for class attendance. 76 hours for reading assignments and preparing an oral presentation 180 hours for writing a paper.

Assessment method

Participation in class [20%] and an essay [80%]
For 5 ec’s, the paper has to have a length of 3000 words
For 10 ec’s, the paper has to have a length of 6000 words

Only the paper can be redone in case of a resit.

For those following a research master, more attention will be paid to the theoretical framework and the analysis of the paper.

Blackboard

Blackboard will be used to post all the necessary information about the course (programme, time tables, announcements, etc.). Also notices will be posted on interesting activities (such as Conferences, workshops, expositions, etc.), which are related to the themes analyzed during the course.
