Admission requirements

Master students of Clinical Neuropsychology, participating or having participated in the Master course Child Neuropsychology: Theory and assessment of neurodevelopmental disorders.

Description

This course consists of 7 seminars, which are all mandatory. During the seminars, the different stages of a neuropsychological assessment and various (neuro)psychological tests will be discussed. Furthermore, case material will be used to introduce the various psycho-diagnostic domains.

In between seminars students will have to practise together with several tests and questionnaires. Students will also have to perform an actual neuropsychological assessment, which includes history taking, assessing a child, writing a report and discussing the results in class.

Examination

Students are not automatically enrolled for an examination. They can register via uSis from 100 to 10 calendar days before the date; students who are not registered will not be permitted to take the examination. Registering for exams

Mode of instruction

The course provides a practical training in clinical neuropsychological assessment of children with neuropsychological problems. Integrated diagnostic skills are built up by training:

  • history taking (anamnesis)

  • social-interactive skills (with parents, children)

  • observations

  • neuropsychological testing

  • scoring and interpreting test results

  • report writing

At the end of the course, students will have gained knowledge about how to perform neuropsychological assessments and how to report the results through oral and written reports. This will be achieved through:

  • Attending and participating in the seminars

  • Writing (parts of) a neuropsychological report, after each seminar

  • Practising with various neuropsychological tests and questionnaires

  • Assessing a child, which includes writing a report about the assessment and discussing the results in class.

Assessment method

  • Assignments (e.g. writing a report) about different cases

  • Assignments assessing a sufficient completion of several neuropsychological assessment tasks.

  • Written neuropsychological report about a child assessed by the students themselves.
