Superconductivity

Course
2012-2013

Description

The course emphasizes the phenomenological description of superconductivity and superconducting systems. By using its quantum nature and the Ginzburg-Landau description, basic parameters and characteristic lengths such as the electronic coherence length, the magnetic penetration depth, and the distinction between Type-I and Type-II superconductors are introduced. These concepts are then used to discuss the Josephson junction and the Superconducting Quantum Interferometer Device (SQUID, in day-to-day language).
