A pass mark for Linguistics 5 Syntax or a similar course.
Description
Advanced English Generative Syntax connects the introductory course Introduction to English Generative Syntax (Linguistics 5 Syntax) and the more specialist MA and MPhil Linguistics courses. In this course we will continue to examine the structure of Modern English from the generative perspective, notably Minimalism.
Course Objectives
Students have in-depth knowledge of some important syntactic phenomena of Modern English.
Students are familiar with a number of generative analyses of these phenomena and have the ability to critically evaluate these analyses.

Mode of Instruction
One hour lecture and one hour seminar per week.
Assessment
One in-term written assignment (30%), final written examination (70%).
