Admission requirements

This course is only accessible for BA Japanstudies students. Students must have successfully completed the course Applied linguistics Ib: Kanji.

Description

Kanji IIa is designed to help students increase their kanji fluency through the lecture and practices. The aim of this course is not simply to have students memorize each kanji; it is also to help them learn how to study kanji effectively and to provide them with the kanji knowledge and learning strategies required to continue their studies at the advanced level. In addition to the required textbook which will help students acquire study skills and knowledge as they memorize each individual meaning, form, and readings of kanji, the online learning platform (“ReminDo” ) and the supporting materials provided by the instructor will be used to solidify recognition of the kanji to be dealt with in this course.

Course objectives

The goal of this course is to review 400 kanji introducted in BA1 and learn 180 new kanji in “Jokyu e no Tobira”, with focusing on the characters and vocabulary that appear at JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) N2 level. This course will cover Lesson 1 through 5 of the “Tobira” (Kanji) textbook.

To be able to finish this course an attendance of 70% of classes is required.

Weighing

The final grade is established by determining the weighted average of all elements. In order to pass the course, all elements must receive a passing grade (6 or higher).

Inspection and feedback

How and when an exam review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will have to be organized.
