Admission Requirements

Bachelor of Physics with sufficient knowledge of statistical physics, preferably at the level of the bachelor course Statistical Physics 2.

Advanced Statistical mechanics covers dynamics and collective effects in many body systems

I. Stochastic processes: Brownian motion, master equation, Fokker-Planck equation.
II. Linear response theory.
III. Theory of phase transitions and critical phenomena: real-space renormalization group,
Applications: percolation, Magnetism

Introduction to statistical field theory
I Intro to Path integrals
II Momentum-space renormalization group
III Epsilon expansion

Course Objectives

The aim of the course is develop a strong foundation in advanced statistical mechanics with an emphasis on stochastic dynamics and renormalization group techniques applied to phase transitions.
