Every student of the Master International Relations and Diplomacy (MIRD) is expected to do an internship in the first year of the MIRD. The programme leaves room for an internship placement during the fourth block of the first year, so within the timeframe of the beginning of April until the end of August, with a minimum requirement of 10 weeks (full time).
Relevant organisations for the internship are NGOs, interest groups, government or international organisations, or media organisations working in the field of International Relations and Diplomacy, broadly defined.
In the context of the internship, each student writes an academic research paper on a topic related to the theme of the internship.
With the internship research paper, students learn to evaluate activities related to the organisation in which they conduct the internship in an academically sound way; they critically evaluate and describe the activities of the organisation.
Mode of instruction
The internship research paper is between 3500 and 4500 words.
The research paper (5 ECTs) is graded based on criteria conform to standard academic convention.
Relevant information on the internship research paper is available on the Blackboard internship course site.
