Introduction Course Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences

Description

In this course students will get acquainted with the Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research (LACDR) and Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences (BPS). The three major disciplines of the Research Clusters of the LACDR correspond to the BPS Research Specialisations Drug & Target Discovery, BioTherapeutics, and Systems Pharmacology. The Research Clusters will briefly introduce their research, giving the students an overview of the possibilities within the LACDR. Furthermore, the collaboration with the Centre for Human Drug Research (CHDR) and the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) will be addressed. Next, the students will follow one of the three Cluster-specific parts of the course programme in the discipline that corresponds with their BPS Research Specialisation or ‘Research Project 1’ for the SBB, EDU, SCS and QP Specialisations, i.e.:

Mode of instruction

Lectures, computer exercises, writing of a project proposal, presentations and discussions. The course will be taught in English.

Assessment method

Poster presentation of Bachelor research project, Oral presentation of project proposal, written project proposal, written exam and active participation.

Schedule

For students starting between August 1st and September 1st 2015: August 31st – October 13th 2015.
For students starting from September 2nd 2015 until February 1st 2016: February 1st – March 14th 2016 after consulting the Course Coordinator.
