Admission requirements

Successful completion of level 4 Korean language courses at SKKU or its equivalent qualification.

Description

This course aims to develop advanced level of competence in speaking and communication skills in Korean. It focuses on flexible and effective use of language for social and professional purposes. At the end of the course students should be able to handle authentic materials, to formulate ideas and opinions with precision and to relate their contribution skillfully to those of other speakers.

Course objectives

Students will be able to:

  • Express themselves fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions.

  • Present clear and detailed descriptions of complex subjects integrating sub-themes, developing particular points and rounding off with appropriate conclusions.

  • Have a good command of a broad lexical repertoire, idiomatic expressions and colloquialisms with awareness of connotative levels of meaning.

Course Load

  • Total workload 140 hours;

  • Contact hours: 2 hours per week X 13 weeks = 26 hours

  • Preparation and home assignment: 4 hours per week X 13 weeks = 52 hours

  • Preparation for exam: 62 hours

Assessment method

  • Assignments: 20%

  • Vocabulary quiz: 20%

  • Oral examination:40%: presentation, group discussion and debate, role-play and etc.

  • Written examination: 20%: writing conversations and discussions/debates

Resit: students who fail the course (a grade below a 5.5) may resit the written examination if they have participated in the assignments, vocabulary quiz and oral examination.

Blackboard

Blackboard will be used for delivery of relevant reading materials and submission of assignments.
