Regulation of gene expression and immune responses in plants and animals, Caput

Vak
2010-2011

Coordinator

Prof.Dr. J. Memelink; j.memelink@biology.leidenuniv.nl

Description

This caput series focuses on general principles of the regulation of gene expression in eukaryotes at the level of transcription, with emphasis on protein modifications, protein-protein interactions and changes in chromatin structure during gene expression. Specific examples that will be dealt with are the regulation of gene expression involved in cancer and in innate immune responses in animals and plants.

Methods of instruction

Lectures, reading and discussion of an article

Study material

Molecular Biology of the Cell (5th Edition), Alberts et al. Garland Science New York, 2008.

Examination

Written examination with open questions

Course requirements/recommendations

Participants are expected to possess basic knowledge of biochemistry and genetics at BSc level. Some attention will be paid to basics.
