Vak
2026-2027

Admission requirements

This course is only open for students enrolled in the Minor Biodiversity and the Anthropocene

Description

During this course you will utilize the acquired knowledge on biodiversity, it’s origin, importance, threats and what we can do about them from the previous Minor courses, to conduct an analysis and write a report about societal solutions for a biodiversity issue. Additionally, you will create a short influential video report on the same topic. The course will start with introductory workshop about societal issues, such as biodiversity valuation, identifying stakeholders, and conducting interviews. Subsequently, the students will break down into smaller groups which will focus on a specific biodiversity issue. The case study will be explored during the following weeks with studying literature, analysis workshops, group meetings with the supervisor and stakeholder interviews in order to prepare a written and a video report. This course and the minor will be concluded with a video symposium.

  • Analyse the biological and societal context of a topical Dutch biodiversity case.

  • Identify relevant stakeholders and their specific interests and evaluate possible solutions for the identified stakeholders.

  • Evaluate relevance of existing information and scientific knowledge for a case and identify knowledge gaps.

  • Apply biodiversity information, concepts and analysis tools to a case study.

  • Contribute to an interdisciplinary groupwork and leverage their own and other group members’ expertise
