Description

This course introduces students to the study of contemporary EU politics and policy-making from a political science perspective. It draws on a variety of theories of European integration, disintegration and EU decision-making to gain a better understanding of the role of EU institutions and other actors in the day-to-day activities and decision-making of the EU. While the course focuses on the EU’s core institutions and actors, as well as the most prevalent theories of EU decision-making, students will study the practice of EU politics and governance through a focus on decision-making dynamics across a range of self-chosen policy areas. The practice(s) of EU decision-making will further be highlighted through a study trip to the European Union’s institutions in Brussels, which will take place during the examination week.
