Admission requirements
BA2 Klassiek Chinees 2.
Description
This course is for students who have completed Klassiek Chinees I and II. We will read short stories from Tang and Song dynasties. These came from the emerging genre of literati gossip, covering a wide range of topics: romance, gods, ghosts and more. We will try to understand their plots, as well as the intellectual-political agenda underlying them, gaining thereby a glimpse of the historical process that is usually called the Tang-Song transition. Students are expected to develop skills in independent reading and textual analysis for their own research.
