Demonstrable knowledge of Sanskrit grammar, both synchronic and historical, as shown by successfully completing the two Sanskrit courses in the first semester: “Vedic Sanskrit” and “Historical Grammar of Sanskrit”.
In this course, we will read selected hymns from the Rigveda, the oldest stage of Sanskrit. The hymns will be read in transcription with a translation. We will pay special attention to interpreting the difficult content of the hymns, and further focus on the analysis of the metre, the sandhi, and the grammar.
Apply and practise previously acquired knowledge of Sanskrit synchronic and diachronic grammar
Analyse Rigvedic metre and make metrical restorations of the text
Analyse Rigvedic sandhi
Analyse Rigvedic morphology and syntax with the help of a translation
Know how to use basic traditional and digital resources
The timetables are available through My Timetable.
Mode of instruction
A mid-term test, an assignment and a final written examination.
The mid-term exams counts for 20%, the assignment counts for 20%, and the final exam counts for 80% of the final mark.
There is one resit option for the mid-term exam and the final exam together (80% of the final mark).
Inspection and feedback
How and when an exam review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will have to be organized.
