Admission requirements

Only those who successfully completed BA2 Korean (passed level 4 during study abroad) or equivalent can enroll.

Description

This is an advanced Korean reading course.

The aim of this course is to enable students to read advanced level texts in Korean for academic and daily puposes. At the end of the course, students will be better parepared linguistically for conducting review of literature written in Korean for their own research.

Course objectives

Students will:

  • Familiarize themselves with the styles and the linguistic conventions of advanced level Korean texts including academic texts and news articles.

  • Develop reading fluency and strategies.

  • Increase vocabulary knowledge.

Assessment method

Assessment and weighing

Students must meet the quiz requirement and submit a final project to successfully complete the course. Thereafter final grades will be determined according to the following formula:

  • Reading/Vocabulary Quizzes (closed-ended questions, short open questoins): 70%

  • Assignments: 10%

  • Final project: 20%

Resit

  • Students can resit up to two quizzes upon request. This resit should take place within 2 weeks from the original quiz date in principle.

  • Students should not miss 3 or more quizzes to pass the course.

  • Students, who receive 5.4 or lower for the final project, should resit

Inspection and feedback

  • Within two weeks after a test or an assignment, students can review their test and receive feedback.

Remarks

As is the case for all Korean Studies courses, a strict attendance policy will be enforced. Attendance in all lectures and seminars is expected. Failure to attend results in a lower grade. If you do not attend more than three classes (per 5EC), you will not be able to continue attending the classes and your exam and/or paper may not be graded by the instructor(s). If you have a valid reason for absence, you may get dispensation from this rule, but this requires that you consult the coordinator of studies.
