Only those who successfully competed BA2 Korean (passed level 4 during study abroad) or equivalent can enroll.
Description
This is an advanced Korean reading course.
The aim of this course is to enable students to read advanced level texts in Korean for academic and daily purposes. At the end of the course, students will be better prepared linguistically for conducting review of literature written in Korean for their own research.
Course objectives
Students will:
Familiarize themselves with the styles and the linguistic conventions of advanced level Korean texts including academic texts and news articles.
Develop reading fluency and strategies.
Increase vocabulary knowledge.

Assessment and weighing
Final grades will be determined according to the following formula:
Assignments: 20%
Weekly tests (closed questions, short open questions): 50%
Final project: 30%
Resit
No resit for a missed weekly test, unless due to uncontrollable circumstances and arranged in advance. This resit should take place within 2 weeks from the original test date in principle.
Students who failed the final project (5.49 or lower) must take a resit. The resit consists of a revised and expanded version of the final project.
Inspection and feedback
Within two weeks after a test or an assignment, students can review their test and receive feedback.

Remarks
As is the case for all Korean Studies courses, a strict attendance policy will be enforced. Attendance in all lectures and seminars is expected. Failure to attend results in a lower grade. If you do not attend more than three classes (per 5EC), you will not be able to continue attending the classes and your exam and/or paper may not be graded by the instructor(s). If you have a valid reason for absence, you may get dispensation from this rule, but this requires that you consult the coordinator of studies.
